Backstage
After much deliberation we decided to model the backstage area on the theatre as it looked and felt immediately before the recent modernisation and rebuilding program that began in 1997. Although the auditorium remained largely unchanged during this process, significant alterations and improvements were made to the backstage areas. Aside from being considerably enlarged it was also fitted with all new state-of-the-art stage technologies.
The rebuilding program certainly delivered many of the much needed improvements to the production facilities, all of which were long overdue. Sadly though, in my opinion much of the backstage atmosphere was changed forever when the old Victorian iron and brickwork was demolished.
However, the Miniature Opera will recreate something of that nostalgic atmosphere and preserve it forever as a testament to the golden age of theatre.
